Bala Ganita 2 - Exploring Mathematics

From Number Sense to Mathematical Operations

Bala Ganita Level 2 builds on the foundations developed in Level 1. Children begin exploring number relationships, operations, measurement, money, geometry, symmetry and fractions through meaningful activities and problem-solving experiences.

THE NEXT STEP
From Foundations to Mathematical Relationships

Once children develop foundational skills such as observation, comparison, patterns and early number sense, they are ready to explore how numbers and mathematical ideas relate to one another. Bala Ganita Level 2 helps children move beyond simply recognising numbers towards using, connecting and applying mathematical ideas. Children begin to see mathematics as a system of relationships—not just numbers on a page.

LEVEL 2 LEARNING AREAS
Building Understanding Through Exploration

Number Relationships

Compare, order and understand relationships between numbers.

Addition & Subtraction

Explore operations through quantities, representations and meaningful situations.

Multiplication Foundations

Discover multiplication through equal groups, repeated quantities and patterns.

Division Foundations

Explore sharing and grouping through concrete and visual experiences.

Measurement

Compare and measure length, capacity, weight and other attributes.

Money

Recognise money and begin applying mathematical thinking to simple everyday situations.

Geometry & Symmetry

Explore shapes, spatial relationships and simple symmetrical structures.

Fractions

Develop an introductory understanding of parts and wholes through visual and practical activities.

PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING
Children Explore Before They Generalise

At Level 2, activities encourage children to work with numbers, recognise relationships, test strategies and apply mathematical ideas. Rather than immediately giving a rule or procedure, the teacher creates opportunities for children to discover how mathematics works.

THE ROLE OF THE BALA GANITA TEACHER
The Teacher Guides Thinking

In Bala Ganita, the teacher does more than demonstrate procedures. The teacher observes how the child approaches an activity, asks appropriate questions and encourages the child to explain what they notice, what they tried and how they reached an answer.
